Susan became the First Lady of Montana after her husband, Greg Gianforte was sworn in as the Governor of the state on 4th January 2021. Greg is the 25th Governor of Montana who supports the Republican Political Party after the former Governor, Steve Bullock.
As the First Lady, Susan together with her husband, Greg supports education by providing scholarships to high school students for computer science classes through their foundation of Code Montana. Additionally, they promote high-wage jobs through the initiative, Better Jobs Montana, and offer jobs training through the Gianforte Manufacturing Scholarships.
Prior to becoming the First Lady, Susan was working as a senior manager for NNC and KPMG in which she resigned in 1993 after receiving their thirdborn. Afterward, she was offered support to her husband’s entrepreneurial efforts especially with, Brightwork. After moving to Bozeman, Montana two years later, Susan was running the operations of the software firm founded in 1995 by the Gianfortes, RightNow Technologies for the first two years.
Currently, Susan alongside her family founded the Gianforte Family Foundation in 2004. However, in this foundation, Susan is the financial manager who oversees all financial operations. Additionally, the foundation is considered as one of the top-giving foundations across Montana giving approximately $88 million to those initiatives that align with the Foundation’s vision, mission, and objectives.
